The Role
If you're a dynamic and results-driven professional seeking a unique opportunity to shape the future of a thriving business, we invite you to join our team as General Manager for our store in the nation's capital. This role is your chance to lead, inspire, and create an unforgettable shopping experience that reflects the essence of D.C. and sets new standards in the alcohol industry.
The ideal candidate for this role is a strong personnel, systems, and operations manager as they directly oversee all daily functions of the brick-and-mortar DC store of The Urban Grape. This includes daily management of the sales staff, oversight of scheduling and reporting, directing and servicing outbound sales, and maintaining the look and feel of the brick-and-mortar. In addition, HR duties related to hiring, discipline, promotions, and firing of sales staff and related employees will apply to this position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Functions as lead management to the sales associates, including job training on company procedures, and direct mentorship to the team. Develops and manages training systems to raise the knowledge level and sales ability of the team.
Develop bi-weekly shift schedule for employees, including any time off requests. Prepares and delegates daily work assignments for sales associates including stocking, displays, customer requests, order fulfillment, and cleaning schedules.
Under the guidance of the Lead Buyer, assists with the sales associates’ knowledge of The Urban Grape’s Progressive Shelving system, and customers’ knowledge and use of the system.
Coordinates the hiring, internal promotion, and on rare occasions discipline and termination, of retail associates. Functions as an active and engaging manager to keep the staff progressing on their desired career paths while reducing the need for discipline. Conducts regular reviews for short and long-term tasks, and yearly reviews as defined in the handbook.
Participates in management meetings to ensure all functions of the business are working efficiently and productively. Works with the management team to achieve the set sales goals on a weekly and monthly basis as well as set a plan of action for how to achieve those goals.
Assembles weekly financial drops to the bank and creation and completion of handwritten checks for vendors as needed.
Assists with and delegates the social media tasks in support of the sales goals of the store, new products arriving, and supporting the company newsletters and Instagram.
Protects employees and customers by providing a safe and clean store environment.
Maintains company access to software systems, company websites, and password-protected customer credit card data.
Maintains the stability and reputation of the store by complying with legal requirements.
Resolve customer concerns expeditiously and tactfully.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Retail Management experience is a must (2+ year in wine retail or restaurant/hospitality preferred).
Customer service skill set: demonstrate “best-in-class” customer service for our client base. You will be asked to sign the UG Value Statement which states our desire to foster a team environment and a desire to make all customers feel welcome in our space.
Self-starter: take initiative with regard to customers and employees, as well as daily store duties.
You must be comfortable carrying and moving cases of wine (40 pounds).
Scheduling: some holiday, evening, and weekend availability is necessary, but the store is typically closed by 9. Day, mid, and closing shifts applicable.
Able to efficiently handle multiple priorities and tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Must be comfortable using a computer and typing emails to customers and coworkers.
Previous Point of Sale experience is required.
